Note:
You must have the latest version of ADC2, 2.06, for this program to work properly. You can get the update from the HPS web site at www.hpssims.com, or you can contact HPS directly.

1. Contents
This set contains all the graphics, map and set-up files to play When Eagles Fight, as well as the 17 German variant counters from a later issue of Command Magazine, contained in a separate forcepool.

2. Symbols
Most of the map symbols are similar to those on the original WEF map, although the forest symbols at zoom 2 and 3 are somewhat different. All symbols should be familiar to board gamers.

Four towns missing from the original map have been added; see the errata in info-page one.

At zoom 3, the Game Turn Track contains Replacement rates and the Russian Revolution die-rolls; the Russian Victory and CP Balkan Withdrawal information is included in the Game Turn name found at the bottom right of the screen.

3. Units
All the counters in the original game have been created, and at zoom 3 the combat units contain all the information of the originals except unit set-up and historical I.D. That information is visible in the box at the bottom of the screen, when you position the curser over the unit in question.

The unit class definitions are as follows: attack factor - defence factor - movement factor - set-up hex or turn of entry - Replaceable? (No or if blank, yes.). The German 0-1-0 fortress units have both a set-up hex and turn of entry, per Rule 10.14.

4. Flipping Units
Flip sides have been defined to flip units from full-strength to reduced strength, and back to full strength, except for those units that can not be brought back to full strength. Such units are denoted by a '+' symbol following their movement factor at zoom 3, similar to the '*' symbol on the original counter, and by a "No" value in the class field named Replaceable?; see Rule 10.10. Keep in mind that although Austrian units have flip-sides, they are in fact one-step units (Rule 2.12).

4. Fog of War
The German and Austrian players can use the Hidden units feature; Russian units/stacks are always open to inspection by the German and Austrian players. In order to abide by rule 13.7, at least 1 unit has to be revealed (the top one). All the other units in the stack can be Hidden by double-clicking on the desired unit's M/C/H field on the Select Pieces for Action window then clicking on the red hidden status section in the unit's Edit Piece Value and Information window. Use the same procedure to manually reveal a unit. Mark the box ('This unit on top ') of the non- hidden unit so that it stays on the top top of the stack. It is the responsibility of the owning player to apply this rule properly.

All hidden units still show on map with a generic symbol and they are listed in the Unit list window by the "unknown/hidden" designation.

Reveal range for both players is set at 50. When a unit is selected for combat, it becomes revealed. Once revealed, a unit has to be manually hidden again as described above to take advantage of the fog of war rule.

Note : all units placed on board by both players automatically get hidden status when the Hidden units option is checked. This means you have to edit this field as needed each time a unit is placed on board in a hex by itself or if you want it to be the top unit of a stack. This has already been done for the opening set-up.
