View of Masada

I wasn't sure what to expect when I visited Masada, since I knew virtually nothing about it before my visit. The plateau of the formation is full of various ruined buildings. The area was chosen for settlement because of its obvious defensive advantages, since attack by an invader would be time-consuming due to the difficult approach. However, the Romans did eventually manage to succeed in their siege of Masada. There are three approaches that you can use when visiting Masada. The cable car is by far the easiest of these approaches, but the Roman ramp around the other side of Masada, used during the Roman's successful siege, is also a relatively easy approach. The most difficult approach is the Snake Path, a 45-minute steep ascent to the top. The heat in the Dead Sea region also makes water a vital necessity when visiting Masada (I went through nearly six litres in the approximately three hours that I spent there).
